If the scalp is involved as part of severe psoriasis deemed too extensive to be treated practically with topical medications, then medications delivered orally or by injection may be necessary. All these medications comprise more risk when compared to topical medication. They include oral drugs like methotrexate ( Rheumatrex , Trexall ), cyclosporine ( Sandimmune ), acitretin ( Soriatane ), apremilast ( Otezla ), and some of the so-called biological drugs that are administered by infusion into a vein ( infliximab [ Remicade ]) or by injection into the deeper layers of the skin like etanercept ( Enbrel ), adalimumab ( Humira ), ustekinumab ( Stelara ), secukinumab (Cosentyx), and ixekizumab (Taltz). Regular laboratory work may be necessary to monitor for the toxicities associated with some of these systemic therapies.

Psoriasis is a medical condition in which skin cells die and build up rapidly. Psoriasis creates blotchy, flaky patches on your skin that may itch or feel painful. It can occur anywhere on the body, including on the face. If you have psoriasis on your face, you will want to treat it carefully, as the skin on your face is very sensitive. Depending on how severe your psoriasis is, you may wish to use topical treatments, phototherapy (or light therapy), systemic medications, or a combination of several treatments. There is also some evidence that lifestyle changes can reduce psoriasis symptoms.

While it's not exactly a type of psoriasis, psoriatic arthritis  affects up to 30% of people with psoriasis and usually develops five to 10 years after the original psoriasis diagnosis (although it can show up before a skin diagnosis). The primary symptoms are pain and stiffness in a joint or joints. Morning stiffness, which can take 45 minutes to loosen up, and tendinitis are two other signs. If a person with psoriasis develops joint symptoms that last more than a few weeks, they should be evaluated to see if they have developed psoriatic arthritis. People with mild psoriasis might be just as likely to develop arthritis as someone with a severe form of the disease. Although psoriatic arthritis is not as debilitating as other forms of arthritis, it should be controlled to minimize pain and maximize joint function.

The main drawback to the psoriasis biologics is their high-cost, and fortunately most third party (. work) insurance will pay for these medications. There are also instances of coverage under ODB/social assistance and for seniors. In cases where a biologic medication is indicated for psoriasis but the cost is not covered for the medication by a drug or government plan, at the Toronto Dermatology Centre we offer clinical research trials in psoriasis which allows many patients to obtain psoriasis medications for free. Speak with one of our physicians to decide the best treatment plan for your psoriasis.

I have mild psoriasis on my face around lip corners, nose, eye brows and eye lids. I apply desowin lotion on these areas for few days. It goes away and comes back again in few areas. I read elsewhere that some people who swam in dead sea had seen good results in reducing the flares, they said the salt water worked as a cure. Even before reading, i was thinking to hit the swimming pools to see if that works. Last weekend, i hit the swimming pool and was in water for about 2 hrs (swimming, relaxing..), next day i noticed miraculous reduction of flares and whitesh areas around my mouth. Luckily chlorine water did work to reduce the flares. I believe chlorine/salt water can help some kind of people.
I’m a kind of person who go ahead to test something with out thinking much, and it did work for me. It may or may not work for other body types. So review your body.
I want to pass this information as it may help some other poor sod, as i know the pain.
